George William Marquardt was a Des Moines jeweler and banker. He was born in Darmstadt, Germany and moved to Iowa City in 1854 where he opened a jewelry store and served as a director of both the First National Bank and the Farmers' Loan and Trust Company. In 1881, he established a jewelry store in Des Moines and in 1891, opened Marquardt Savings Bank. He was the director of the Marquardt Savings Bank until 1903.
